We meet in Porto and drive to Miranda do Douro on the Spanish border. Hotel is perched high above the river. Here you spend two nights. A scenic drive along the river to your next accommodation where you spend 5 nights in a beautifully restored village house, in Provesende. Once leaving Porto this tour will keep you well away from the tourist spots and allows you to discover the true Douro Valley and its heart of Gold!
The walks are along good tracks, but the terrain is undulating! Suitable for all reasonable fitness. The walks are easy to moderate level. The walks are balanced so that after a more strenuous day, a shorter easier day usually follows. A moderate level of fitness is required.
The accommodation you will experience different type of accommodation to what the region offers and gives you a unique and varied experience to understand better culture and history.

Day 1: Porto, Miranda, Do Douro
Meet in Porto in the afternoon to travel to Miranda do Douro. A short walk through the historical centre before dinner.
Dinner and overnight Miranda do DouroDay 2: Miranda Do Dour
Breakfast at the hotel. An exhilarating walk through the ‘Parque Natural do Douro International, passing through woodlands and small villages with striking views of the river.

Overnight in Miranda do DouroDay 3: Miranda Do Douro, Provesende
After breakfast, we make our way westwards following as much as possible the route of the Douro river with frequent stops to look at the views and take photos. We arrive at the town of Pinhão. Here we will visit a local vineyard, where we will have lunch and wine tasting before driving high up into the vineyards to the ancient village of Provesende.

Breakfast and departure to a circular walk from along the trail of Congro. There are stunning views across the valley until Régua

Overnight ProvosendeDay 5: Provesende, Sao Martinho De Antas, Provesende
Breakfast and We drive to the large village of Sao Martinho de Antas where you walk northwards through a variety of landscapes and pass ancient tombs from the 10th and 11th century and a wonderfully preserved prehistoric burial chamber – magnificent!

Overnight ProvosendeDay 6: Provesende, Pinhao, Provesende
Breakfast. The walk today takes us slowly down through ancient vineyards with spectacular views to the river. Then we drop down to the town of Pinhão where we take a boat for a private trip on the river; if the weather is good there is the opportunity for a swim! Lunch in local restaurant.

Overnight ProvesendeDay 7: Provesende, Favaios, Provesende
Breakfast. We make a drive to the small town of Favaios where is produced the famous Moscatel wine (sweet drink). You will visit wine and bread museum, to know more about the history of Moscatel wine and Favaios bread. Along the way, we will have fascinating scenery and magnificent views of the Douro River.

Dinner and overnight ProvesendeDay 8: Provesende, Porto
Breakfast. Transfer to Porto, where we will have a panoramic tour of the 2nd city in Portugal. Built on the right bank of Douro, Porto offers the contrasts of a city that is both ancient and modern. Visit of its highlights and the typical quarters, with its Baroque churches, the elegant metal bridges, and the wine cellars. Walk through the picturesque Ribeira district, the historic heart of Porto (listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site). You will have free time to visit a typical cellar and do a wine tasting.
