Day 1: Your journey begins upon arrival at Olbia airport. After picking up your rental car, you will depart toward the Tempio di Pausania area. With no planned activities for this first day, you have free time to settle in and discover the charming granite city on your own before an overnight stay in the hotel.
Day 2: Following breakfast at the hotel, Day 2 invites you to relax, enjoy a swim, or set off to explore Alghero, Capo Caccia, and Baia di Porto Conte. Your suggested itinerary starts with a drive to Alghero to visit the historical center with its ancient walls and Spanish towers, the Church of San Francisco, the Cathedral, and the Bousquet walk. You can also opt for a boat excursion to the Grotte di Nettuno departing from the port. Afterward, drive up to the promontory of Capo Caccia and the bay of Porto Conte for panoramic views, stopping at the Palmavera Nuraghe on your way back to the hotel for the night.
Day 3: After breakfast, your visit begins with Il Nurago la Prisgiona in the Municipality of Arzachena, one of the 7,000 round Bronze Age towers unique to the Mediterranean. From there, you will drive to the magical mountain village of San Pantaleo for a short photo stop amid its fascinating granite formations. Continue to Baia Sardinia and drive along the scenic Costa Smeralda route to discover the emerald-colored sand bays that inspired Karim Aga Khan. Finish the day visiting the fashionable capital of Porto Cervo to explore its boutiques and large marina before overnighting.
Day 4: After breakfast today free time or a day trip to Corsica. Driving north to the harbor of Santa Teresa di Gallura. From here, you will take a 45-minute ferry across the 13-kilometer seaway to Bonifacio in Corsica. Like most harbor cities, Bonifacio boasts a rich history split between the lower Marina quarter and the cliffside upper city offering breathtaking panoramas where you can sometimes spot the Sardinian coast. A tourist train takes guests to the upper part for a one-hour guided walking tour. Afterward, you will take the ferry back to Santa Teresa and drive back to your hotel for the night.
Day 5: Depart for your first stop at Sant’Antioco di Bisarcio to admire one of the largest and most scenic volcanic-rock Romanesque churches in Sardinia. Continue onward to Barumini to visit the UNESCO-listed Nuraghe Su Nuraxi, a remarkably well-preserved Bronze Age megalithic fortress complex perched at 238 meters. Afterward, you will proceed south to Cagliari for your overnight stay.
Day 6: Start your morning early in Cagliari with espresso on the cobbled streets. Step back into the second-century AD at the Roman amphitheatre, pop into the Cattedrale di Santa Maria del Castello, gaze up at the gold-hued Royal Palazzi, and climb to the top of the Torre dell’Elefante for sweeping views across the city and sea. In the afternoon, take an excursion to Santa Margherita di Pula to explore the ancient Phoenician and Roman archaeological site of Nora and relax by its beautiful beaches before returning to Cagliari for the night.
Day 7: After breakfast drive east to the beautiful coastal town of Villasimius, known for its stunning beaches. Continue onward to Costa Rei, where you can explore well-preserved local nuraghi and coastal landscapes. Finally, drive back to Cagliari for your overnight stay.
Day 8: Enjoy breakfast and drive toward the airport in Cagliari or Olbia. If flying out of Olbia, you can drive north along the serpentine mountain stretch of the SS125, taking in incredible views of the Gulf of Orosei. Stop off at the prehistoric village of Serra Orrios, explore the underground trails of the Ispingoli caves near Dorgali, and enjoy a seaside dip in Santa Maria Navarrese before arriving at Olbia airport to drop off your rental car and conclude your trip.
