This self-drive touring holiday easy  leisurely exploration of the southern part of Italy, covers the well-known beauty spots of the Amalfi Coast.  Embark on this self-drive holiday that starts in Naples, where on arrival you will retrieve your rental vehicle.  Naples is a beautiful city that blends colours, sounds, flavour and a historical centre recognized as the largest in Europe. After two days in this fascinating city you will transfer to Sorrento which will be your base for the next 4 days. As you drive southwards and explore the coastal towns the most romantic coast in Italy, you will be met by sweeping panoramic sea views and as you explore Amalfi, Positano, Praiano, Ravello and more of this memorable destination.

  Day 1 – Arrival in Naples

  • Route: Naples Airport → Naples City Centre
  • Distance: 15 km | ⏱️ ~25 minutes
  • Activities:
    • Pick up your rental vehicle at Naples Airport.
    • Drive to your hotel in the city centre and check in.
    • Afternoon at leisure to begin discovering Naples on your own.
    • Dinner suggestion: enjoy a classic spaghetti alle vongole (spaghetti with clams).

  Day 2 – Discover Naples on Foot

  • Route: Local touring only (walking day)
  • Activities:
    • Breakfast at hotel.
    • Explore Naples on a walking tour. Highlights include:
      • Royal Palace of Naples (17th century)
      • Spaccanapoli, the vibrant pedestrian street slicing through the old city
      • Cathedral of Naples (Duomo di San Gennaro)
      • National Archaeological Museum, housing Greek and Roman artifacts
    • Stop at a local pizzeria for a slice of authentic Neapolitan pizza.
  • Overnight: Naples

  Day 3 – Naples → Pompeii → Positano

  • Route: Naples → Pompeii → Positano
  • Distance: 60 km total | ⏱️ ~1.5 hours driving time
    • Naples → Pompeii: 25 km (30 min)
    • Pompeii → Positano: 35 km (1 hr)
  • Activities:
    • Depart Naples and stop at Pompeii, the ancient Roman city preserved by Mount Vesuvius’ eruption.
    • Continue along the spectacular coastal road to Positano.
    • Afternoon to wander the town’s steep alleys, boutiques, and ceramic shops.

  Day 4 – Explore the Amalfi Coast

  • Route: Positano → Amalfi → Ravello → Positano (loop)
  • Distance: 60 km total | ⏱️ ~2 hours round trip (plus stops)
  • Activities:
    • Drive the world-famous Amalfi Coast Road through olive groves and terraced cliffs.
    • Visit Praiano, Amalfi, and Ravello – charming seaside and hilltop towns.
    • Enjoy the views of turquoise waters and stop for coffee or limoncello along the way.
  • Overnight: Positano

  Day 5 – Positano → Sorrento

  • Route: Positano → Sorrento
  • Distance: 20 km | ⏱️ ~40 minutes
  • Activities:
    • Short drive to Sorrento and check in at your hotel.
    • Visit Piazza Tasso, the lively main square lined with cafés and gelaterias.
    • Wander the narrow streets filled with local shops and souvenir boutiques.
    • Enjoy sunset views over the Bay of Naples.
  • Overnight: Sorrento

  Day 6 – Day Trip to Capri & Anacapri

  • Route: Boat excursion (no driving today)
  • Activities:
    • Depart Sorrento port for a day tour to the island of Capri.
    • Visit Capri Town, explore the Piazzetta, and take in panoramic sea views.
    • Continue to Anacapri, perched high above, known for Villa San Michele and artisan shops.
    • Optional: take a boat ride to the Blue Grotto (weather permitting).
    • Return to Sorrento by evening ferry.
  • Overnight: Sorrento

  Day 7 – Sorrento → Caserta → Naples

  • Route: Sorrento → Caserta → Naples
  • Distance: 130 km total | ⏱️ ~2.5 hours driving
    • Sorrento → Caserta: 110 km (2 hrs)
    • Caserta → Naples: 20 km (30 min)
  • Activities:
    • Depart Sorrento for Caserta to visit the Royal Palace of Caserta (Reggia di Caserta) – Italy’s “Versailles.”
    • Explore the grand palace, baroque gardens, and fountains.
    • Drive back to Naples in the late afternoon.
    • Evening at leisure for final strolls or dinner in the historic centre.
  • Overnight: Naples

  Day 8 – Departure

  • Route: Naples City Centre → Naples Airport
  • Distance: 15 km | ⏱️ ~25 minutes
  • Activities:
    • Breakfast at hotel.
    • Drive to Naples Airport.
    • Return your rental car and check in for your flight home.
    • Arrivederci Italia! 🇮🇹
