Arrive meeting point at the entrance of the Colosseum and meet our knowledgeable and passionate guide, the tour begins at the entrance of the Colosseum. Also known as the Flavian Amphitheatre, this imposing structure is one of the most famous visited monuments in the world. Opened to the public with a solemn inauguration that lasted 100 days, it was used for gladiatorial fights (murena), wild animal hunts (venationes) and, with the arena filled filled with water, simulated sea battles (naumachiae). Built where there was times past an artificial lake of the Nerone’s Domus Aurea, it had a capacity for approx. 73.000 people with a large awning (velarium) which protected the spectators from the sun and the rain. It’s 2.000 years old but the Colosseum is still the symbol of the Eternal City.
After the visit of the Colosseum we walk toward Palatine Hill, where the city of Rome was founded. This is the place where VIP inhabitants used to live and had fun with the many parties and events of the Empire. Thanks to the proximity of the Roman Forum this area grew fast to become a very fashionable place to live, the most exclusive neighborhood where all emperors and the most important patricians families built their opulent houses. Which today are still fascinating visitors. The Roman Forum was for centuries the center of Roman public and economic life, where the most important structures of the ancient city were located.
The last part of the tour is the outstanding Roman Forum. From the entertainments of Ancient Rome to the business.. Head to the Roman Forum and learn about the commercial and political heart of the empire. Along the way you will walk along the titanic arch of Constantine, the final resting place of Julius Caesar, and the Temple of the Vestal Virgins, who were charged with the unenviable task of safeguarding the morality of Ancient Rome. The Roman Forum was for centuries the center of Roman political and economic life, where the most important buildings of the ancient city were located.
The tour ends inside the suggestive Roman Forum. You can continue on your own walking along the famous Sacred Road or ask your guide for suggestion to visit other parts of this immense Archaeological area.
