Depart from your Milan hotel and ride in comfort in an automobile or minivan. Travel a just under one hour and reach Laveno-Mombello, a beautiful port city on the western shore of Lake Maggiore. Lake Maggiore, the second largest in Italy, extends in the regions of Piedmont and Lombardy and is famous for its beautiful Borromean Islands. Literature lovers will know the area for being one of the scenarios of Ernest Hemingway’s famous novel, Goodbye to Arms.
With your guide, get on board a boat and enjoy the views of splendid Mediterranean villas and gardens on the banks of the lake while sailing for 1.5 hours through the deep blue waters. You will sail alongside Isola Madre, with lush exotic vegetation throughout the year, before reaching the picturesque Isola dei Pescatori (Fisherman’s Island).
Spend time exploring the small island at your own pace. Discover the labyrinth of narrow alleys and enter a cafeteria or restaurant for lunch (not included in the price).
Back on the boat, you will sail to Isola Bella (Isla Bella), one of the largest Borromean Islands. Here, visit on your own the Borromeo Palace, a 17th-century baroque palace with beautiful Italian gardens. Then, enjoy free time to explore at your own pace or go shopping.
Re board your boat in the afternoon and navigate to your last stop, the elegant city by Lake Stresa. With easy access to Milan, Stresa was a favorite destination for artists and writers in the 19th century, including Hemingway. Enjoy free time to explore the cobbled streets in the old town of Stresa. Then, return to your Milan hotel.
