Day 1: Welcome to Champagne
Meet your driver-guide at Paris airport or depart from your hotel in Paris and motor to Reims, in the Champagne region. Today you will discover the magnificence of Reims, the coronation city. Learn about “Notre Dame de Reims”, one of the first site listed as Unesco World Heritage. Understand the historical atmosphere of the town, home of the coronation of more than 25 kings of France… Since King Clovis (a.k.a. “The first king of France”) was baptized in Reims Cathedral in AD 496 and the occasion was celebrated with the wines produced in the Champagne region, the area has been associated with the French monarchs. The effervescent drink that we know today as Champagne wasn’t developed until the end of the 17th century, thanks to the efforts and expertise of wine masters such as Dom Pérignon. Later visit the Champagne House Taittinger. Make the most of your Champagne excursion by exploring the underground cellars of the prestigious Champagne House Taittinger and savouring a lovely morning glass. In the afternoon, motor north till the vineyards of the elegant Montagne de Reims while your guide points out the particularities and peculiarities of the region: why are our vines planted on steep slopes? Why is our subsoil made out of such pure chalk? Continue your tour by discovering a family-run boutique winery. Tour the traditional press and vat room as your guide details the conventional “Champagne method” called “Méthode Champenoise”. Appreciate several tastings of their production and acquire further knowledge and expertise on the most beautiful sparkling wine! Overnight in Reims.Day 2: Epernay
It’s tough to truly understand the nature of this extraordinary drink without visiting Champagne Maisons in the region. While the “terroir” provides the character to grapes and the ageing process brings out the flavour, it’s each house’s various philosophies and recipes for combining and using three types of grapes – Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Meunier – that build unique champagne tastes. Engage yourself in Champagne with a private guided experience of the Champagne region around Epernay including two Champagne producers and a tasting class.
Meet your guide at your hotel and drive to Epernay. You will visit one of the most well-known Champagne producers in the morning. According to the availability, you will visit one among Moët & Chandon, Dom Pérignon, Billecart-Salmon, Philipponnat, Leclerc-Briant, Giraud, Collet. Here you will experience a Champagne sabrage session with an aperitif in the middle of the vineyards! You will also participate in a tasting session to improve your nose skills and taste different grapes varietals. In the afternoon, you will discover the beauty of the small growers and visit an authentic family-run winery, then you will have some free time in the town of Epernay.
Overnight in Reims.Day 3: Return to Paris
Today, you can choose to return to Paris or extend your stay the Champagne region or decide to explore another adjacent area like Burgundy.
