    15-Day Guatemala & Costa Rica Highlights

    Day 1: Guatemala City / Antigua Upon arrival at La Aurora International Airport in Guatemala City, you will be met by your representative and transferred to Antigua. Enjoy the remainder of the day at leisure. Overnight: Hotel Villa Colonial

    Day 2: Chichicastenango / Lake Atitlán Today, visit Chichicastenango, home to Guatemala’s largest highland Mayan market, held every Thursday and Sunday. Chichicastenango offers an authentic glimpse into Guatemala’s Indigenous traditions.  Explore the colorful market traditional textiles, masks, handicrafts, flowers, candles and incense. Visit the historic Santo Tomás Church, built on the site of a former Mayan temple.  Continue to Panajachel, situated on the shores of Lake Atitlán.. Overnight: Hotel Villa Santa Catarina

    Day 3: Lake Atitlán Today, explore several of the most interesting communities around Lake Atitlán, where the Maya Tzutujil culture remains an important part of everyday life. Begin with a boat ride to San Juan La Laguna, approximately 30 minutes from Panajachel. Known vibrant local culture, San Juan is known for art galleries featuring traditional and contemporary Maya artwork.  Continue by boat to Santiago Atitlán, located at the foot of Atitlán Volcano. This predominantly Maya Tzutujil community known for its fishing, farming, weaving.  Walk through the town before visiting San Antonio Palopó, charming lakeside community. Return to Panajachel by boat. Overnight: Hotel Villa Santa Catarina

    Day 4: Lake Atitlán / Guatemala City / Flores, Petén  After breakfast, enjoy some time in the Lake Atitlán area before transferring to Guatemala City Airport for your afternoon flight to Flores. Upon arrival in Flores, transfer to your hotel overlooking Lake Petén Itzá and enjoy the remainder of the day at leisure. Overnight: Hotel Villa Maya

    Day 5: Tikal / Guatemala City Today visit the archaeological site of Tikal one of the most important cities of the Maya civilization  renowned for its monumental temples.   The site was inhabited as early as 700 BC and flourished during the Classic Maya period.  Tikal National Park was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1979 for its outstanding cultural and natural significance. Following the tour, return to Flores Airport for your flight to Guatemala City. Overnight: Hotel Barceló Guatemala City

    Day 6: Guatemala City / San José Transfer to La Aurora International Airport for your flight to San José, Costa Rica.  Upon arrival, enjoy a panoramic sightseeing tour of San José aboard a VIP double-decker bus. Discover the city’s parks, landmarks and lively streets while your guide shares insights into Costa Rica’s history and culture.  Overnight: Hotel Palma Real

    Day 7: San José / Doka Coffee Tour / Poás Volcano / La Paz Waterfall Gardens  This morning, depart from your hotel in San José and travel into Costa Rica’s Central Mountain Range. Visit an authentic Costa Rican coffee plantation and learn about the complete coffee production process, including cultivation, harvesting, processing and roasting.
    Continue toward Poás Volcano, enjoying the changing landscapes and views of coffee plantations, fern, flower and strawberry farms along the way. At Poás Volcano, admire the impressive main crater and sulfur fumaroles while learning about the diverse ecosystems of the national park.Following the volcano visit, continue to La Paz Waterfall Gardens for lunch and a guided tour. Walk along rainforest trails leading to spectacular waterfalls and explore the park’s hummingbird gallery, serpentarium, bird house, butterfly garden and frog exhibit.Return to San José. Overnight: Hotel Palma Real

    Day 8: San José / Tortuguero National Park Early morning departure from San José at approximately 6:00 a.m. Travel with a bilingual naturalist guide through Braulio Carrillo National Park, enjoying spectacular scenery.  Stop for breakfast at Selva Tropical Restaurant, where you can also enjoy the butterfly garden surrounded by tropical flowers.  Continue to the Caño Blanco dock and board a covered boat and travel through the scenic Tortuguero canals to the lodge, arriving around midday. Afternoon, visit the Turtle Museum of the Caribbean Conservation Corporation. Explore the colorful village of Tortuguero. Return to the lodge with time to relax and enjoy the pool or bar before dinner. Overnight: Tortuguero Lodge

    Day 9: Tortuguero National Park / Arenal Volcano  Begin the morning with an early wildlife observation tour at approximately 6:15 a.m. to experience the awakening of Tortuguero’s rainforest. Return to the lodge for breakfast. After breakfast, continue to the northern lowlands and the town of La Fortuna, located at the base of Arenal Volcano. Upon arrival, enjoy time to relax and experience the area’s renowned hot springs.  Overnight: Hotel Arenal Paraíso Resort & Spa

    Day 10: Arenal Volcano Morning – Arenal Hanging Bridges at Mistico Park for a guided nature walk through the primary rainforest near Arenal Volcano. On the trails observe the region’s diverse flora and fauna and tropical birds. The approximately 2-mile trail system is designed for a range of ability levels and includes 15 bridges, six of which are suspension bridges. Enjoy spectacular views of the Arenal Volcano along the way. The guided walk lasts approximately 2.5 hours. Afternoon – Arenal Volcano 1968 Park. Continue with a guided nature walk through Arenal Volcano 1968 Park and surrounding reserves. Spectacular views of Arenal Volcano, Lake Arenal and Cerro Chato. Look for opportunities to spot birds, monkeys and other wildlife in their natural habitat. Overnight: Hotel Arenal Paraíso Resort & Spa

    Day 11: Arenal Volcano / Monteverde Travel from Arenal to Monteverde by Taxi-Boat-Taxi service. This van-boat-van journey is a convenient and scenic way to travel between the Arenal Volcano and Monteverde Cloud Forest. Cross the waters of Lake Arenal and arrive near the small town of Río Chiquito. Continue to Monteverde and the town of Santa Elena, located in the heart of the cloud forest region. Experience the Selvatura Zip Lines, which take you deep into the primary Monteverde Cloud Forest for an exciting adventure surrounded by lush vegetation and spectacular scenery.
