Day 1: Arrival in Belize Upon landing at Belize International Airport, a representative meets you to assist with your two-hour private transfer westward into the Cayo District. The drive ascends into lush tropical surroundings, bringing you to your jungle lodge late in the afternoon. Once checked in, spend the remaining hours unwinding on your private deck, listening to the evening sounds of the rainforest, or dining at the resort’s open-air restaurant before settling in.
Day 2: Shared Guided Birding Tour Your morning begins at dawn as your expert guide leads you on an early walk across canopy suspension bridges and through private forest trails. The early start catches the peak morning chorus, allowing you to spot and identify many of the region’s 270 native and migratory species. Return to the lodge mid-morning for a relaxed breakfast. The afternoon offers time to walk the riverbanks, relax by the pool, or join an optional sunset property walk.
Day 3: Leisure Day Take the entire day to set your own pace. You can rest around the property with a spa treatment or yoga session, or book an optional full-day excursion. Popular choices include exploring the sacred Actun Tunichil Muknal (ATM) Cave, visiting the Maya ruins of Xunantunich, or canoeing along the Macal River. Day 4: Transfer to Mountain Pine Ridge Check out after breakfast for a scenic 2.5-hour land transfer into the Mountain Pine Ridge Forest Reserve. Weaving through pine forests, granite ridge lines, with frequent stops for birdwatching along the route. Arrive at your new eco-lodge by early afternoon, leaving time to explore nearby waterfalls or walk the lodge trails before dinner.
Day 5: Full-Day Lagoon Tour & Scarlet Macaw Spotting Depart after an early breakfast for a full-day guided boat excursion to a pristine inland lagoon system. Cruise along the water edge to observe Scarlet Macaws in their natural nesting grounds, along with jabirus, kingfishers, and river wildlife. Enjoy a picnic lunch. Afternoon return to your lodge.
Day 6: Transfer South via Hummingbird Highway & Cockscomb Basin Tour Depart the pine ridge and drive south along the scenic Hummingbird Highway. You will stop mid-day at the Cockscomb Basin Wildlife Sanctuary—the world’s first jaguar preserve—for a guided hike through the dense broadleaf forest to spot toucans, howler monkeys, and native plant species. After lunch near the preserve, complete the drive down to your southern rainforest accommodations.
Day 7: Birdwatching at Mayflower Bocawina National Park Early day with a guided birding walk through Mayflower Bocawina National Park, hike past ancient Maya sites in the jungle hillsides. Mid-morning return and check-out. Continue a 1.5-hour transfer to the Tropical Education Center. Late afternoon settling into the savannah habitat. Night tour of the facility.
Day 8: Early Morning Birding & Transfer to Crooked Tree Wildlife Sanctuary Sunrise birding walk around the savannas of the Tropical Education Center. Afterward, depart toward the Crooked Tree Wildlife Sanctuary. Arrive in the afternoon, check into your lagoon-side lodge and explore the surrounding village or take a introductory walk along the wetland boardwalks.
Day 9: Lagoon Birding Tour At Sunrise boat tour through the 16,000-acre sanctuary’s network of lagoons and waterways, looking for Jabiru storks, boat-billed herons, and freshwater crocodiles. The boat returns mid-morning, giving you a free afternoon to rent a kayak, hike the savanna trails, or interact with local villagers before your final night in the wetlands.
Day 10: Transfer to Caye Caulker Check out after breakfast and drive to Belize City to board a 45-minute water taxi to Caye Caulker. After arriving on the island, check into your hotel and spend the afternoon strolling along the sandy, car-free streets, sampling local street food, or watching the sunset at The Split.
Day 11: Hol Chan & Shark Ray Alley Snorkel Tour Depart on a full-day catamaran or speedboat snorkeling expedition. The day begins with a stop to feed tarpon, followed by snorkeling in the crystal-clear waters of the Hol Chan Marine Reserve among sea turtles, rays, and vibrant corals.
