Day 1: Arrival at the Florence airport. Retrieve rental vehicle and drive 65 km to Montecarlo, Lucca to your accommodation the Locanda Il Fornello. This agriturismo is located in the middle of an oasis of greenery on the slopes of the Montecarlo hill. This sunny land is covered with vineyards, such as Sangiovese, Malvasia, Cannaiolo, Vermentino and a thriving olive grove. Overnight
Day 2: Breakfast and start your discovery of Tuscany. Thanks to the splendid position of this agriturismo, it is a good starting point to discover the art cities of Lucca and Pisa and the tourist centers such as Collodi, Montecatini Terme and Versilia. End of your day at your agriturismo enjoy a a true Tuscan home cooked dinner with wine tasting. Overnight.
Day 3: Breakfast at the hotel and departure to Agriturismo Castagnolino 75 kms from Montecarlo. You will travel on the road formerly called “Via Francigena”. Arrive at this lovely farm that has been completely restored offering comfortable rooms. The location is ideal as your are just 2km from San Gimignano. Your agriturismo is surrounded by olive trees and from the garden and pool area you have a stunning view of the towers of San Gimignano . Extra virgin olive oil and organic saffron (PDO) from San Gimignano is produced at this agriturismo.
Day 4: After breakfast, morning hands on Cooking lesson using typical products of the region and learn the secrets of blending Tuscan seasonings. Lunch will follow your class. Afternoon enjoy a leisurely 31 km drive to Volterra a walled mountaintop town with history dating back before the 8th century BC. Return to agriturismo. Overnight
Day 5: After breakfast an 41 km drive you reach Siena. Take time to visit this beautiful Renaissance city, Tuscany’s second largest city and rival to Florence in the sharing of history, architecture and culture. Easy to walk about and explore at your own pace. Not to miss: Spannocchi Renaissance Palace, the majestic Piazza Salimbeni and not to be missed the facade of Siena’s Cathedral . After your visit a short drive and you will reach your accommodation for the next two nights Fattoria del Colle, a winery estate located between Crete Senesi and the Val d’Orcia, an intact corner of Tuscany, still unknown to most. It covers 336 hectares, cultivated in the form of grains, olive groves, and 23 hectares of vineyards that include two Tuscan wineries, Casato Prime Donne in Montalcino, where the Brunello di Montalcino and Fattoria del Colle is produced in Trequanda where Chianti Superior DOCG is produced, DOC Orcia Cenerentola and the Virgin Terre di Siena olive oil. Dinner at the Osteria di Donatella restaurant located within the 16th-century estate, and serves typical dishes of the Siena countryside accompanied by the great red wines of the two wineries, including Brunello di Montalcino. Inside the Osteria there is a room with floral decoration and a terrace with a panoramic view of the vineyards, where you can enjoy typical Tuscan meals. Overnight at Fattoria Del Colle.
Day 6: Breakfast spend the morning on a hands on Cooking lesson using typical products from the estate and region. Lunch to follow. After lunch take time to visit Montalcino and Asciano. Driving distance total 100 km. Overnight Fattoria Del Colle
Day 7: Breakfast and depart for Florence. Distance 71 km. Return rental vehicle and check into your hotel. Balance of day at leisure to explore Florence. Overnight
Day 8: After Breakfast join a half day small group walking tour of Florence. Visit the Academia (David) headsets provided at the museum visit. Afternoon at leisure to do some last minute shopping or just sit at a cafe and enjoy an espresso or gelato and of course Florence.
Day 9: After breakfast meet your driver and private transfer to Florence Airport and say Arrivederci to Florence as you drive out of the city centre.
