Day 05 SACRED VALLEY OF THE INCAS / MACHU PICCHU. Meals included: Breakfast, lunch and dinner. This morning you will be transferred to the Ollantaytambo Station where you board the Executive train (Inca Rail) to Machu Picchu’s Aguas Calientes. Upon arrival at Machu Picchu’s Aguas Calientes Station, you’ll take a 30-minute shuttle-bus ride to Machu Picchu, the “Lost City of the Incas”. The ruins are located in a lush jungle and are believed to have been built in the mid-15th century by Inca Pachacutec. Lost in history, it was not discovered until 1911 by the American explorer Hiram Bingham. Meet your guide and enjoy a private tour of the fabled ruins.

Now recognized as a member of the new 7 Wonders of the World, Machu Picchu is a marvelous and famous citadel which combines the visual and spiritual force of magnificent natural scenery with the natural diversity of a historic sanctuary. Machu Picchu is recognized as a Cultural and Natural Patrimony of the World, and is a sacred city or sanctuary because only the Inca and his noblemen, priests, priestesses and chosen women (Akllas) had free access to its premises. Machu Picchu rises to an altitude of 7,900 feet above sea level between the Huayna Picchu (young peak) and Machu Picchu (old peak). It lies within the spectacular framework provided by the exuberant vegetation of nearby jungle and the rugged landscape. The ruins are situated on the eastern slope of Machu Picchu Mountain in two separate areas – agricultural and urban. The latter includes the civil sector (dwellings, canalizations) and the sacred sector (temples, mausoleums, squares, royal houses). Although the constructions show different levels of architecture, the religious buildings exhibit a high degree of perfection. The construction was generally in stone and the roofs were built of tree trunks and thatched with ichu or straw. The walls lean slightly inward to protect against earthquakes. Lunch will be at the Sanctuary Lodge.

Later, take the bus down to Aguas Calientes town and walk to your hotel for check in. Dinner will be served at your hotel’s restaurant. Overnight at selected hotel in Aguas Calientes.

Day 06 MACHU PICCHU / CUSCO. Meals included: Breakfast. Your will have the opportunity to return to the ruins with your guide and walk through the citadel for a second visit. It is quite mystical to walk during the morning mist. You may hike to Huayna Picchu for the best aerial views of the ruins. This mountain is located towards the north of the Citadel and appears in the background of Machu Picchu’s classic pictures. The way up is a long stairway of which some of the steps are simply carved in the mountain rock; a slow climb will take approximately one hour. Later take the bus down to Aguas Calientes. Board the afternoon Executive train (Inca Rail) back to Ollantaytambo station. On arrival, you will be transferred to your selected hotel in Cusco city.

Important: The visits to Huayna Picchu have a restricted access to 400 passengers per day – 200 at 07:00 a.m. and 200 at 10:00 a.m. This entrance is subject to availability and the guests have to choose and inform their preferred scheduled with time in advance. Guests’ information such as complete name, passport number, nationality, date of birth and pre payment are required to purchase the entrance fee. Entrance fees to Huayna Picchu and Machu Picchu are non refundable / non endorsable.

Day 07 CUSCO. Meals included: Breakfast. At about 11,400 feet above sea level, Cusco is renowned as the navel of the world and was once the capital of the Inca Empire. UNESCO declared Cusco a World Heritage Site in 1983 and its legacy dates back to the 15th century and is attributed to the Inca Pachacutec, who built the city‘s most remarkable constructions. Lined with stone streets and dotted with foundations laid centuries past by skilled Inca stonemasons, Cusco defines the allure of a majestic Andean capital. A unique blend of colonial, pre-Columbian and mestizo culture, Cusco offers superior insight into the many treasures of these varied, but equally rich, cultures.
