Roman Countryside


The pleasant trip to discover the surroundings of Rome with the old medieval towns and its volcanic lakes, will give you the opportunity to relax for few hours outside the city traffic. Albano the historical town of Albalonga, a modern village that looks across the ancient volcanic lake. Along the Caracalla Baths and the Appian Way we reach Castelgandolfo, summer residence of the Pope, overlooking one of the deepest volcanic lakes. We continue to Ariccia, a small village once isolated high in the mountains but now easily to get to by a large bridge constructed by Pope Pio IX. Genzano is reputed for is flower carnival and the birth place of Marco Antonio Colonna, the famous general of the battle of Lepanto in 1571 and Nemi, the town of wild strawberries overlooking an enchanting lake " Mirror of Goddes Diana." Along the Via dei Laghi, Grottaferrata with its Monastery was founded on the ruins of an old Roman villa, Frascati famous for the production of white wine.
